Technical expertise

At Skanska, our technical expertise brings together specialized knowledge in structural engineering, geotechnics, building physics, and road materials. The goal: to advance construction through innovation, sustainability, and digitalization—delivering safer, more efficient, and cost-effective results.

Our experts support every stage of the construction process, from early planning and design to follow-up and performance optimization. By centralizing technical competence, we foster collaboration and a holistic perspective across all projects.

Infrastructure and geotechnical engineering

In infrastructure and geotechnical engineering, Skanska Teknik develops technically sound, cost-efficient, and sustainable solutions for complex civil works. Our expertise spans bridges, tunnels, roads, and foundations—even in challenging soil conditions.

From the earliest project phases, our specialists contribute with risk assessments, design calculations, and material selection—ensuring resilient, low-impact solutions. By combining hands-on construction experience with advanced geotechnical theory, we deliver designs that are both technically and economically optimized.

Building engineering expertise

Our building engineering specialists provide deep knowledge in building physics, energy efficiency, sustainable design, moisture protection, and architectural integration. With a cross-disciplinary approach, we engage from concept through completion to create buildings that perform well, minimize climate impact, and promote healthy indoor environments.

Using advanced digital tools and simulations, we can test and refine technical solutions before implementation—helping us deliver flexible, future-ready buildings that meet client needs and societal goals alike.

Road Technology Center

Skanska’s Road Technology Center serves as a hub of excellence for material quality and technology development in asphalt, aggregates, concrete, and road construction. Experts at the center focus on development, testing, and quality assurance through accredited in-house laboratories.

The team supports both internal operations and external partners with production control, material optimization, and mechanical solutions. By combining practical expertise with advanced testing capabilities, we ensure durable, high-performance roads and structures that stand the test of time—even in extreme climates.

Research and development

Skanska continuously invests in research and development to stay at the forefront of technological progress in construction and civil engineering. Collaboration with universities, research institutes, industry organizations, and innovation programs plays a key role.

Through initiatives such as InfraSweden2030, Smart Built Environment, and numerous internal projects, Skanska manages around 100 R&D initiatives at any given time. Our focus areas include climate-neutral construction, circular economy, digital solutions, and new materials—all aimed at driving innovation that strengthens competitiveness while contributing to a more sustainable society.

Laboratory testing for asphalt, aggregates, and concrete

Skanska operates a nationwide network of 19 accredited laboratories, from Luleå in the north to Malmö in the south. These facilities provide advanced analysis and testing of asphalt, aggregates, and concrete in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Our laboratories support everything from daily production control to specialized testing, product development, and failure analysis. As a key technical resource for project managers, contractors, and clients, the labs help ensure that every Skanska project meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and sustainability.
