Skanska was awarded a contract to construct retaining walls at three sites on the Santa Rosa Island Range Complex of Eglin Air Force Base. The total length of the walls is approximately 2,935 linear feet. Each retaining wall consists of an anchored steel sheet pile capped with a continuous reinforced concrete beam. Wave attenuating revetments were constructed behind the seawalls using geo-textiles, bedding stone, rip rap, and armor stone. The revetments varied in height from six to twelve feet above the top of each wall. The project included demolition or partial demolition of existing retaining walls. Existing rip rap was stockpiled for reuse in the new revetments. Existing steel sheet piles will be reused in construction of the new anchor walls. Concrete debris from demolition of existing concrete caps was reused as fill when possible.
Skanska was awarded two US Army Corps of Engineers “Superior Safety Awards” in 2009 and 2010, recognizing our project safety record that included zero lost time incidents for the life of the project.
