This $48 million medical center project consisted of 48,000-SF of new construction and 5,500- SF of renovation work. The facility houses a new emergency department, new utility plant and 24,000-SF intensive care unit. This project also included site renovations and utility infrastructure upgrades.

Constructing the project

1) Very tight site which has been mitigated by strong communication with the subcontractors, excellent planning and all of the subcontractors working with Skanska to get things completed in an efficient manner. 2) The Facility Administration has never been through a major construction project on this campus. We have over communicated items with them. We meet daily with several members of the administration team and simplify issues so they can understand them. We also go out of our way to accommodate their needs when and where we can.

Awards

On November 17th, 2009, the team achieved the Cal OSHA Golden Gate Recognition. This is a one-time recognition by Cal OSHA in safety performance that is received as the result of a single Cal OSHA consultative inspection. When the Cal OSHA Consultant inspected their record keeping and project safety, the team was told that the project would receive the Golden Gate Recognition due to exemplary performance. This qualifies the West Hills project to be eligible for SHARP Recognition in the future.
