Skanska is providing preconstruction and construction management at risk services for a new $140 million campus for UNC Hospitals located in Hillsborough, NC. The project broke ground in April of 2011 and will be complete in two phases.

The first phase consists of site prep and development of 10 acres, a three-story, 60,000-SF, $16 million physician’s office building, a 14,000-SF central energy plant and surface parking for 1,161 cars. The physician’s office building will offer a range of surgical and medical specialities including lab, imaging, oncology and urgent care. This phase is scheduled to be complete in the spring of 2013.

The second phase of the project includes a patient tower a new $125 million, 241,574-SF greenfield patient tower and diagnostic and treatment building. The facilities include 50 acute care beds, an 18-bed intensive care unit (ICU), six operating rooms, two procedure rooms and emergency department. Support space includes radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, nutrition and teaching space, onsite - mobile imaging and helicopter pads. This facility will function closely with the main campus in Chapel Hill, NC and will provide UNC Health Care with a small-scale environment that supports its academic programs. This phase will be complete in the summer of 2015.

The project is planned to achieve LEED Certification by embracing sustainability in all aspects of design and strives to create a successful, fully integrated place for patient care, treatment, teaching and research, that makes use of resources and materials in a sustainable manner, is healthy for its occupants, and conserves and enhances the environment for future generations.
