A new meeting point for Stockholm students
At Stockholm University, Skanska has developed the Albano campus in collaboration with Akademiska Hus. We have carried out framework supplementation for houses 1, 2 and 4. Campus Albano will link Stockholm University with KTH and KI.
65,000 square meters of premises for education
In total, Skanska's assignments comprised 65,000 square meters, including lecture premises, offices and laboratories for students, teachers and researchers.
Skanska started the project in the fall of 2018. In the spring of 2020, the pandemic caused major challenges. From then and until the end of the project, in 2022, we have had to adapt and develop our working methods and routines based on the new conditions.
We urged the employees to comply with FHM and other authorities' restrictions. For example, staying at home if they had symptoms of an infection. We also made sure to create conditions for everyone to keep their distance in daily work.
Work based on three keywords
Our work is based on three values - healing, learning and living. Healing means that the Albano campus "heals" nature and has many green spaces. For example, the National City Park is "healed" by linking with Lill-Jansskogen, Bellevue and Brunnsviken.
Living refers to the Albano campus being an active area after office hours. There are services, student housing and activities that promote creativity.
Learning refers to the role of the academy in development, where the goal is to put Stockholm on the map as a student city.
Biological diversity in focus
The development of the Albano campus has taken place in conjunction with nature. Biodiversity is a major focus. The goal has been to become a role model in sustainable urban construction. The area has been certified according to Citylab.
Citylab is a relatively new certification that encompasses an entire urban development project, and does not only apply to an individual building. The work that forms the basis for the certification has been initiated and run by Akademiska Hus in collaboration with the area's other property owner Svenska Bostäder.
Campus Albano has met 20 indicators
Citylab includes early and comprehensive planning and program phases. It is not easy to be approved. The Albano campus has met 20 indicators to reach the high level that Citylab requires.
The indicators include both qualitative and quantitative assessment criteria and accounting requirements. For example, it is important that the urban development project offers a mixed development, sustainable modes of transport, meeting places, green spaces, ecosystem services and energy systems with low climate impact.
Properties certified in accordance with Miljöbyggnad Silver
All properties have been built with a strong focus on the environment and sustainability. Among other things, all the rainwater from the area flows down into a ravine in the park where it is cleaned. The goal is for the water to be cleaner than Brunnsviken when it flows out there.
The houses have green roofs that make it easier for insects and plants to strengthen their dispersal routes. In addition, the houses are certified in accordance with Miljöbyggnad Silver.
At the forefront of digitalisation
The project had an ambition to be at the forefront of digitalisation. Among other things, we worked with BIM 360 and had plenty of iPads at the workplace. The goal was no paper documents.
Working with social sustainability was important as well. We conducted several safety rounds together with Akademiska Hus. We also had trainees who needed a way into the labor market. The internship was for four months and our goal was to be able to offer a job.
Modern office and teaching environments
House 4 and house 2 were completed in March 2021. We handed over house 1 in March 2022.
Today, visitors are met by modern office and teaching environments with a high degree of flexibility that is adapted to the needs of the activities. There are kitchenettes for students, cafes and restaurants, as well as a joint teaching lab for Stockholm University and KTH
