Skanska was construction manager for the expansion and renovation of Terminal 4 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Work involved converting the existing baggage make-up unit area into an Explosives Detection System (EDS) Screening Area and relocating the existing EDS screening machines from the airline ticketing area to allow more space for ticketing and baggage loading operations. As part of renovations to the existing baggage make-up area, Skanska constructed a 10,000-SF "H" shaped canopy with two baggage conveyors to accommodate all airlines in the international terminal. The second phase of work consisted of a 3-story building expansion, including erection of a new stair tower, renovation and build-outs. The expansion included the Federal Inspection Services areas, passenger queuing, Customs and Border Protection, Transportation Security Administration, Airline Ticket Offices, carrier spaces and BCAD office spaces along with incorporation of an EDS system, new baggage make-up equipment, new business technology area and other support areas.
