The Children’s Hospital of Richmond Pavilion (CHoRP) project will provide outpatient pediatric services for the Richmond community. The project consists of four levels of below grade parking and 11 stories above ground including a ground level with entrance, three levels of parking and support functions, seven levels of clinical, office or shell space and a utility tunnel. The entire project encompasses a total of 640,000-SF.
The new Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU Children’s Pavilion will be the largest and most advanced outpatient facility dedicated to children in the region. It will bring the majority of the outpatient pediatric services currently spread throughout the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Campus to one location designed to meet the unique needs of pediatric patients. The pavilion will house 72 exam rooms; a surgical area with two operating rooms and two procedure rooms; areas for diagnostic testing, imaging and lab services; and faculty offices all dedicated to pediatrics. The building is being designed with future expansion capabilities to accommodate additional clinic pods and operating rooms.
Each floor plate is approximately 38,000-SF for a combined building total of 310,000-SF. Exam rooms will be divided into clinic pods organized for efficient multidisciplinary care. Each pod will include 12 exam rooms, a treatment room, support space and a centralized clinical team hub.
A portion of the existing Children’s Pavilion and underground parking deck was demolished to prepare the footprint of the new building. Temporary walls are required and structural work may be required to stabilize the remaining space. Extensive site and shoring work was required for the deep excavation in the site.
