A spectacular blue glass building greets motorists traveling on a daily basis along the Söderleden route in Mölndal. HTH’s showroom is eye-catching thanks to its ideal location and its exciting façade inspired by Danish designer kitchen cabinet doors.
Kitchen renovations are becoming increasingly popular among Swedes. While HTH already had a base in central Gothenburg, it needed to complement the business with new premises. Greater access for the end-customer was a key factor. Furthermore, the company needed more floor space to showcase more kitchen solutions.
Skanska helps companies to identify unique and business-specific buildings. This project combined our know-how with HTH’s experience from a similar project in Jönköping.
Time was the greatest challenge. For HTH, it was important to inaugurate the premises on the date announced, leaving no room for delays. Thanks to a highly effective construction organization, the store could open as planned.
Eklanda is situated next to the Söderleden route used by thousands of cars each day. The immediate area includes commercial retail stores, business premises, industrial companies and residential areas, some of which Skanska helped to build.
Other companies with operations established in Eklanda in cooperation with Skanska include Scan Interlight, Ahlsells, Kia, Lexus and Konradssons Kakel.

Skanska always works with the customer to create unique and business-specific buildings. HTH’s establishment in Eklanda is one example of this. The recent home-renovation fever resulted in HTH needing to complement its premises in central Gothenburg. Our task was thus to create new premises for the kitchen manufacturer.
A decisive factor for HTH was that we understood their needs. Furthermore, we could offer a site in the right location, at the right price and at the right time. HTH was already familiar with the way we work, since we had developed stores for them across Sweden in the past.
Throughout the project, HTH had one contact person at Skanska, which was a convenient solution that allowed the company to focus its resources on its core operation. Although the customer’s involvement was naturally important for a successful outcome, they only needed to focus on the important issues.
HTH was handed a turnkey building – at a fixed price and within the agreed timeframe. We subsequently worked with HTH after the company moved into the premises to ensure that the building maintained the promised standard.
Poor ground conditions were a challenge in the construction project. The soil was clayey as a result of an ancient stream that once flowed through the site. There was also a considerable distance before reaching rock, which provides stability to foundations. The solution was to construct the building on lightweight fill material and a piled bottom slab.
The load-bearing structure comprised a steel structure and prefabricated concrete hollow-core floor slabs.
An innovative façade was important since we wanted to grab the attention of passers-by on the Söderleden route. HTH markets modern designer kitchens, and this should also be reflected in its building.
HTH’s establishment in Jönköping served as a reference. The façade in Jönköping is similar to that in Eklanda, but we chose to stand out more in order to be seen. The blue color and the glass is the result of this.
So-called Plannja elements are behind the façade, and these would have been sufficient on their own. However, in consultation with the customer, the decision was taken to install a façade system to give a more architectonic impression. This was selected by HTH and the idea was that it would reflect Danish designer kitchen cabinet doors.
The effective collaboration between contractor, client and customer enabled us to design an optimal building. Skanska Sverige was the general contractor, Skanska Fastigheter Göteborg was the client and the end customer was HTH Kök. The architect was Ellsinger Arkitektkontor AB.
