Skanska started to build homes in Sweden early in its 125-year history, initially for external client but after WWII Skanska also invested in the development of own residential projects. In the beginning it was mainly multi-family housing projects but soon single-family homes were also built. In the 1950s Skanska developed the Allbeton method for efficient on-site casting. This made the company a leader in this sector and when the Governmental Million Program was launched in 1964 Skanska was one of the main home builders. Skanska delivered about 10,000 homes yearly during the ten-year program through 1974.
