Al Rasheed Hotel, Baghdad, Iraq
The luxury hotel in Baghdad was a design/build project completed by Skanska 1972–1982. In its 17-story tower and a low-rise section the hotel contains nearly 500 rooms, a banquet hall for 700 people, restaurants, a casino and a wintergarden. The turnkey hotel features marble from Carrara and Swedish crystal. It was the base for international media in both Iraqi wars. In 1993 a CNN team even managed to film a missile as it was hitting the hotel window below their top floor.
